The game's contract bonus system uses the same bonus structure specified in the NHL-NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, albeit with a few simplifications.
.Only NHL contracts can have bonuses, and only if the league has a salary cap enabled. Note that this means bonuses are present in historical, but only during the cap years, i.e. 2004-05 and later.
Only certain players are eligible for bonuses in their contract/extension:
- Players who require Entry-Level Contracts
- Players whose age as of December 31 of the first year of the contract is >=35 and are requesting a 1-year contract
- Players who have >=400 NHL GP and had an injury with length >=100 days in the previous season
Bonus Structure and Criteria: There are two levels of bonus; a player can have both A and B-level bonuses or A-Level only, but not B-Level only.
A-Level Bonuses: Each A-Level Bonus is worth $212500 to the player; a maximum of 4 A-Level bonuses can be chosen for a contract.

- Assists: 35/25
- Points: 60/40
- Total Ice Time: top 6 among team's forwards/top 4 among team's defencemen
- +/-: top 3 among team's forwards/top 3 among team's defencemen
- All-Rookie Team
- All-Star Game
- Goalie Minutes Played: 1800
- Goalie GAA: >=25 GP and GAA < average GAA of all goalies in league with >=25 GP
- Goalie Save%: >=25 GP and Save% > average Save% of all goalies in league with >=25 GP GA/SA)
- Goalie Wins: 20
- Goalie Shutouts: Average shutouts of all goalies in league with >=25 GP
B-Level Bonuses: To be eligible for a B-level bonus, the player must have 4 A-Level bonuses. Each B_Level bonus is worth $2000000 to the player; a maximum of 1 B-Level bonus can be chosen for a contract.

- Goals: Top 10 in goals among league's forwards/Top 10 in goals among league's defencemen
- Assists: Top 10 in assists among league's forwards/Top 10 in assists among league's defencemen
- Points: Top 10 in points among league's forwards/Top 10 in points among league's defencemen
