Injury Deferral gives you some control over the treatment of injuries suffered by your players.
You can choose to defer injury treatment for some types of injuries until after the season ends; when an injury occurs, and the player is willing to defer treatment, you'll receive a message asking if you want to wait until the end of the season to have the injury treated. That will let you keep the injured player in the lineup with reduced performance and a risk of making the injury worse.
Deferral is mainly intended to allow you to keep the player in the lineup for key games at the end of the year or in the playoffs, but you'll need to balance that against the possibility of getting the player healthy as soon as possible. Deferring treatment early in the season will lead to a bad season by the player, if he can even make it through the year without making the injury worse.
