Custom Source Folders
OOTP is fully customizable because it pulls a lot of information from folders and files which you can exchange or edit. This page shows the different ways to use custom folders and files.
If you want to use a game specific folder for photos, just add a folder <your league.lg>/photos.
If you specify a custom folder for your game as described in Source database folders above, OOTP will always use that folder to look for photos for that saved game.
So there are three ways to provide photos:
- the custom folder
- the game specific folder
- the default folder
OOTP will only use one of them. The custom folder if it's provided, or the game specific if it exists, or the default folder, in this order. If there's no photo in a folder, OOTP will not look in another folder.
Source database folders
When you create a new game, OOTP loads the world data (i.e. nations, states, cities...) from an editable XML file which you'll find in the data/database folder. This folder also contains the files which contain the team and person names. If you want to use an alternate database folder, you can change the folder in the League Creation Wizard when it's in Advanced Mode, on the Source Databases tab. You can also change other folders on that screen for logos, photos, ball caps and jerseys. This way you could use historic graphics for your 1912 league, for example.World XML file
OOTP loads this file only once when creating the league. The information will be saved in the world.dat file where it's not editable. You can still edit world data on the Explore World screen.Photos folder
Whenever you open a player screen for the first time, OOTP will look for photos for this player in a certain folder. Usually OOTP will use the default folder data/photos inside the OOTP data folder. For example, for the player Joe Smith OOTP would first look for a file named joe_smith.png. Then it would look for a file joe_smith.jpg. If it's a historical player with a Lahman ID, OOTP would first look for files using the Lahman ID as file name, then for the player name.
