While the game ships with default 3D stadiums, users will no doubt be interested in adding custom stadiums of their own making or build by our modding community. To facilitate the customization of 3D models for OOTP, the game includes an editor to add the elements necessary to make the model playable.
Camera Controls
As you build your ballpark, it will often be useful to rotate, move, and zoom the camera in and out. The Camera Rotation Controls and Camera Movement Controls at the bottom of the screen allow you to control the current location, direction, and zoom level of the camera by clicking on the + and - buttons that control each of these.
Additionally, if you want more precise controls, you can increase or decrease the effect each button click will have by changing the "Each click..." settings for each type of camera control. Reset Camera View will return the camera to its default settings.
Step 1 - Basics
To begin with, you can select the overall Ballpark Size of your ballpark from the available options, allowing you to choose a full-sized major league park or a more modest stadium typical of the minor leagues.
Then, pick a Shape for your ballpark, which modifies the basic layout of the park into various different configurations.
The Field Texture can also be chosen - pick from grass or artificial turf of various different types and patterns.
Finally, the Background buttons will cycle through the available background images that illustrate the park's immediate surroundings.
Step 2 - 3D Layout
After the basics are completed, you can choose the 3D Layout of the park by selecting from various 3D models for five different regions behind the outfield fence - traditional grandstands or bleachers, open areas, or even unique center field features.
The Seating Color of the seats in the stands can also be specified here.
Step 3 - Fence Configuration
The construction kit's fence configuration works in a manner very similar to the fence configuration in the basic ballpark editor:
The fences are defined by a series of "fence posts" that show the location and height of the wall surrounding that part of the field. Individual posts can be selected using the Previous/Next to choose the active post. Once you've selected a post in this manner, you can relocate it forward or backwards using the Move In/Move Out buttons and change its height with the Increase/Decrease buttons.
You cannot move a fencepost to the left or right; instead, if you need to mark an angle or curve in the fence, you'll need to add additional fenceposts using the Add New Post button. This will create a new fencepost between the one you've selected and the next post to the right. You can then move that post into the appropriate position. If you want to remove a post, select it and click on Delete Active. Generally, long straight outfield walls are the easiest to mark and require few posts; irregular shapes or curved fences will need a lot more.
The fence locations will affect the Park Factors, which affect how difficult or easy it is to hit in this ballpark. The Preview Park Factors button will tell you the exact effects your current setup will have, as well as the distances and fence heights in your park.
During this step you can also choose the wall and top colors of the fence. The colors can either be chosen from the dropdown list, or a Custom color can be specified.
Step 4 - Review and Finalize
Complete your design by specifying the details of the park. Choose a Ballpark Name and Capacity (note that this will affect attendance and therefore team revenues), and pick your Ballpark Location by choosing the country and city that host the park.
Finally, identify the team you want to assign the park to, and, once you're happy with everything, click on SAVE BALLPARK! to add your new park to your game.
