Player/Personnel Image Conventions
OOTP will save all player images inside the folder /news/html/images which is located in your league saved game folder.
The file names will begin with player_. For coaches it will be coach_ and for managers it will be manager_.
The file name extension will be .png or .jpg, depending on the file format of the source picture.
When OOTP needs a player picture which does not exist yet, it will look for a matching picture in two locations:
- the /photos folder, where OOTP looks for a properly named png or jpg file
- the /fg_files folder, where OOTP looks for a Facegen Photofit file (historical facegen picture)
OOTP will first look for an historical facegen picture, if you selected "Select for Photofit file first" in the Preferences dialog/Facegen/Picture search mode.
Otherwise it will look for a real picture in the photos folder first.
Naming conventions for the player images:
- You can use the player's Lahman database ID (see player profile page) as file name.
- You can use the real name as filename. Replace spaces with "_", remove dots and make it lower caps: jorge_de_la_rosa
- or you could use the old naming convention where you just combine first name and last name with an underline: Jorge_De la Rosa
If OOTP finds a picture, it will rename it using the person's type and ID like in player_4711 and will copy it into the saved game's /news/html/images folder.
If no picture can be found and if Facegen is enabled in the game setup, OOTP will create a fictional picture which will be saved in the same folder using the person's type and ID as file name.
Check the folder/news/html/images. There should be a picture file with the file name mentioned in the picture info. You could delete it or rename it to force OOTP to re-create the picture. Make sure that it's not write-protected.
Check the folders /photos and /fg_files for picture files for this player. If you delete the original picture, OOTP will not use it anymore.

Using the Name Format
Here are a few things you should consider when using the name format for player or personnel images:- Name files are much easier to create and name, and file names are intuitive.
- Names containing apostrophes ('Joe O'Malley') or spaces ('Jorge De la Rosa') can use the firstname_lastname format. Therefore, Joe_O'Malley.jpg and Jorge_de la rosa.jpg are both valid image names.
- Names containing accents ('José Cruz') cannot use the firstname_lastname format. For players or personnel member with accents in their names, you must use the ID format.
- If two people have the same name, each person will have the same image.
Using the ID Format
Here are a few things you should consider when using the ID format for player or personnel images:- You don't have to worry about accents in player names. IDs handle any kind of name equally well.
- Even if players have identical names, they can have distinct images when using the ID format.
- Player IDs are not terribly intuitive.
Using the Lahman ID Format
This is probably the best way to name player pictures because it does not contain accents and it's more intuitive than just an ID number.Player/Personnel Image File Formats
Image files must be in .JPG or .PNG format. Images must be no larger than 90 pixels wide by 135 pixels high. There is no limit on the size of the file in bytes, although about 5 KB is recommended.Troubleshooting
If a player picture would not update, for example after changing the team's jersey, you should check the picture info. To do that, first enable the debug mode: open the Preferences dialog, Toubleshooting tab, then select "Write debug info to file". Open the profile screen of the player in question, open the "Picture" menu at the bottom of the screen and click on "Show Info". The information displayed can help you finding out why the picture would not update.Check the folder
Check the folders /photos and /fg_files for picture files for this player. If you delete the original picture, OOTP will not use it anymore.
