3D Model Fireworks and Emitters
OOTP has a 3D Model Fireworks system that allows users to add custom fireworks placement to stadiums. The fireworks used in our engine are created with a particle system so while it might seem quite simple to add these the placement will be important.
To be able to add fireworks to your stadiums you will need to navigate to the 3D Model tab under your Edit Ballpark page. You can find the Edit Ballpark button on the top right corner of your Team Settings page. Once you are inside the 3D Model editor page you can check on the show fireworks emitters button at the bottom.
Now when placing an emitter the explosion or firework will happen at the position where the emitter has been placed. have been placed. Emitters are represented by a line with both a red and yellow dot at each end. The red-colored end represents the point in space where the explosion happens.
The yellow-colored end is the direction the explosion will travel towards. Note that our fireworks particle system will produce a particle cloud that is best viewed behind the firework. So ensuring that the red dot is facing away from the viewing angle of the user is the best position for the emitter. You can setup up to 24 emitters in a single stadium.
Now emitters do have an order of operation when they activate in game. While the emitters will go off sequentially from 1 to 24 they also will pair up so 1 and 2 will pair while 3 and 4 will pair. This will continue on as you add emitters. The two emitters in a pair will go simultaneously. So for example 1 and 2 will go off to start the fireworks show followed by 3 and 4 and then if there is a lone fifth emitter it will go off last by itself. The timing is usually around 1 second between pairs being activated. So you could have a 12-second fireworks show if you add all 24 emitters to a stadium.
This can be very opportunistic if, for example, you have two sides of the stadium you’d like to see fireworks launched from. This would permit you to have both sides simultaneously produce fireworks. Just as a note all stadiums that are included with OOTP have all 24 emitters placed already. Self-made stadiums (construction kit stadiums) or imported stadiums will not include emitters.
Add Emitters
So let’s explain how to add emitters and how to move them around your stadium. After having checked on the check box to show fireworks emitters you can select the add button. The default location for emitters is directly above home plate.
You can then move the emitter to the place where you want it to be in the stadium or rotate or scale it by using the following key and mouse combinations: -Move it parallel to the field: SHIFT + RIGHT_MOUSE_BUTTON + MOUSE_MOVE -Move it up and down: SHIFT + MIDDLE_MOUSE_BUTTON + MOUSE_MOVE -Rotate the emitter: SHIFT + LEFT_MOUSE_BUTTON + MOUSE_MOVE -Scale the emitter: SHIFT + MOUSE_WHEEL
To add a second emitter just click again on "Add". The second emitter will appear as a copy of the first one in the same place as the first one. But when moving the currently selected emitter, which is the second one, you will see the first one again, but instead of being in red/yellow (selected) color it is now in black/blue (unselected) color:
As you continue to add emitters they will always become the You can use the previous and next buttons under the select emitter section to toggle between the emitters you have in your stadium. To see what the explosions look like, you can click on the "Test Fireworks" button.
To remove emitters you can use the remove last button to remove the last emitter in the sequence. Note this will only allow you to remove the last emitter so correcting a previous emitter will require some rework.
