Historical Minors

In addition to playing as a team in a major league in historical games, it's now also possible to control a minor league team. The American Hockey League is the first playable minor league in Historical, with seasons from 1940 to the present, but more will be added in the future.

Generally, playable minor leagues in historical mode will work exactly as they do in a standard game. Teams will be able to sign their own players in addition to receiving those loaned by their NHL parent (if they have one.) Bear in mind that, while playing as a minor league team, your player availability will be significantly affected by the actions of your parent team.

When a new game is created, players will begin on the AHL teams they played for in that season, unless they begin under contract to an NHL team.

Playoff Systems and schedules may be simplified from their actual historical formats; we'll continue to improve this area as much as possible, though.

NHL Affiliations will change at the dates they did historically. This may result in a team changing from having a farm team in a playable league to one in the older, generic version of the minors that represents leagues that are not playable (yet.) Players will automatically be moved when an affiliation changes.

Franchises will become inactive in the year they did historically. When a minor league franchise stops playing (which is much more common in the history of the minors than in the NHL), its players will be released and general manager fired.

If historical editing is turned on, playable minor leagues will be editable like any other league. Affiliations can be changed manually, but as long as a minor league teams continue to exist, they will still be updated on the historical dates of affiliation changes.
