2017 MLB CBA Changes

Major League Baseball and the MLBPA reached a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in November 2016, covering the years 2017-2021. We've attempted to implement as many of the game-relevant changes as possible in OOTP, and will likely continue to add more of them as time passes. The following changes are now in effect:

  • Home-field advantage in the World Series will be awarded to the Club with the higher winning percentage in the Championship Season, rather than based on the outcome of the All-Star Game
  • The 15-day disabled list is replaced with a 10-day disabled list
  • The Competitive Balance Tax Threshold is now $195 million
  • The Major League minimum salary increases from $507,500 to $535,000 (note: this will remain the minimum in 2018 and later)
  • For the purposes of international player acquistion, each Club will be allocated a Signing Bonus Pool of $5M
  • Clubs may not exceed their Signing Bonus Pools (available as an option)
  • International signing restrictions incurred during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 signing periods will carry over into the new agreement
  • The time period in which a Club may designate a player for assignment has been shortened from 10 days to 7 days
